Commercial Alarm Monitoring

Commercial alarm systems have evolved a lot. Just creating a loud sound in the event of a break-in or smash & grab is not enough!

Modern alarm systems are no longer local implementations and unconnected systems. The equipment is more reliable and offers much better security. With professional monitoring and a versatile mobile app, our clients can stay connected with their business in real-time.

Components of an Intrusion Alarm System

There are many components to business alarm systems. Each of these have an important role to play. If they are put together properly, then you end up with a powerful commercial security system.

Here are the main components of an alarm system:

Detection Devices

Detection devices detect when an intruder enters your building. Many different types are used in commercial security installations,  such as:

  • Contact Switches - These are installed on doors and windows to detect whether they are open or closed. We can use these on exterior doors and windows, but they are also used in the interior of the building, e.g. to monitor a store room.
  • Motion Detector - A motion sensor is used to detect the presence of people in the building. Usually they are so-called “passive infrared” (PIR) detectors which get triggered by the body heat emitted by a person. We usually install them throughout the property.
  • Glass Breakage Detectors - These are often installed near windows and glass doors around perimeter of building. In the event someone smashes the glass, the alarm system is activated before the intruder is inside the building.

Signaling Devices

When an intrusion is detected, then a signaling device gets activated. This could be a bell or siren, or a visual device such as a strobe light. The intruder now knows that he has been detected and in many cases will prompt a hasty retreat. Other people in and around the building are also notified so they can take applicable action.  External strobe lights may help emergency services find the building that is in alarm.

Arming Stations or Keypads

Arming stations turn the intrusion alarm system ‘on’ and ‘off’. They are normally located inside the building near the exit doors and allow the last user that leaves the building to arm the alarm. Usually this is done either with a code on an arming station with a keypad. This offers more flexibility and advanced functionality, such as arming only part of the building and providing system diagnostics.

Arming stations will indicate if the alarm is on or off, and whether or not it is ready to be activated. For example, a keypad arming station will indicate if a door in the building is left open.

Control Equipment

The control panel of the business alarm system processes all alarm activities. The detection devices, signalling devices and arming stations are all connected to it. These control panels are specially designed computers that allow us to completely customize your alarm system.

Alarm Transmission

When an alarm is triggered, then the alarm transmission equipment sends a message to the professional monitoring and to the authorities. The messages are sent through regular telephone lines, cellular or internet devices.

Full Security System Integration

Your business alarm system can be integrated with additional systems to further enhance your security:

  • Access Control: A Card Access Control System allows you to manage who has access to what part of the building, at what time.
  • Fire Protection: connecting your smoke detector or ULC fire monitoring system allows the alarm transmission equipment to  notify  the fire department
  • A Business Security Camera offers instant and reliable information about every security incident. The quality of indoor and outdoor cameras has improved dramatically, and in almost all cases we can see precisely what has triggered an alarm and make sure we trigger the right alarm response, from dispatching security personnel to triggering an alarm with the authorities.

Our experienced team will work with you to set up a fully integrated alarm system.  Our professional team will work with you to monitor auxiliary devices, such as compressors, generators, or key building equipment.   If you already have existing security equipment then we will find the best possible way to integrate it and get the most out of your investment.

Monitoring Services

As a business owner you can monitor what's happening in your business with a mobile app, even if you are not in the building. You can use the video surveillance tools, and we will set up notifications with the information you need. This can include an overview of who is in your building, which doors are locked, and whether the alarm system is armed.

Our security systems come with professional monitoring, keeping an eye on your business 24/7. Even when you are asleep or on vacation you can rest assured that your assets, your building and your people are kept as safe as possible!

  • How much is a business alarm system for a business?

The price for a security system can be answered after we understand why you think you need a security system for your business.   We know that security systems for businesses can vary because different businesses have different threats.   For instance, if I have a retail business that carries inventory that can be stolen and quickly re-sold, then it will be important for me to make it as difficult as possible to get into the building all while providing the earliest detection possible.

If I have a commercial business, where there are computers, servers, and a team working in a hybrid model, then the cost of a break and enter could be the cost of how long you are down if the computers, servers were damaged or stolen.   What is the disruption cost to the business to get back up and running?

You might say all security systems are equal, and I would reply that they really aren’t.   A business that has had a break and enter, where their staff have been terrorized and locked in a room will have a different expectation going forward.   That is why we take the time to ask questions and try to understand the situation.   The goal is to come up with a security solution that works for the application.

  • What is the best security system for a business?

The best security system for a business is a system that considers early detection, immediate notification and the appropriate response.     Security systems such as intrusion alarms, video surveillance, card access systems or fire monitoring system are all considerations when it comes to what types of security systems are best for a business.   However, what are the threats?    For example, I would think a Jewelry store would like as early detection as possible if someone broke into their store.   I would think they would like immediate notification and they would want the authorities to respond as quickly as possible.   On a little bit of a different note, a business that has a security system that happens to monitor the compressors of their ice rink would probably appreciate being notified, however, they don’t need the authorities to respond.   They just need to know that compressor service is required quickly so the ice doesn’t melt resulting in lost revenue from lost rentals.

The best security system for a business is a security system that has been designed for the application.

  • How important is a security system for a business?

Workplace safety is an essential part of any business. Safety measures help reduce costs associated with injuries and accidents. A safe working environment can also increase productivity and efficiency.  The goal is to maintain safety and security of the team and the assets.  The reality is that there are a number of factors when considering a security system.   For example, what are the potential targets, how would someone get the targets and how can we prevent that.    A thorough security analysis will develop a solid security solution that everyone understands and agrees with.
