Requirements for ULC Fire Monitoring Installations
To qualify for your ULC certificate, your fire monitoring system requires that all elements of the fire monitoring system comply with the ULC fire alarm monitoring equipment standard ULC-S559 to ensure the best fire protection.
The Security Company
A1 Security Systems is a ULC listed alarm service company. Every year ULC does a review of our procedures and inspects a number of our fire alarm monitoring installations. With their approval we can provide industrial fire and safety services. Don’t take risks with the lives of your employees and clients, and work with a ULC listed alarm company to implement monitoring of your fire alarm.
The Monitoring Station
The Monitoring Station (also known as SRC or Signals Receiving Centre) used by your alarm services company also has to comply with ULC standards, and needs to be ULC certified.
Fire Alarm Monitoring System Transmitter
Any transmitter used for fire alarm monitoring systems must be ULC approved. The transmitter must send a signal to the monitoring station within 60 seconds. The monitoring station must be able to prioritize certain alarms and send them in the appropriate order to meet the ULC standard.
Fire Alarm System or Sprinkler Monitoring System
Your fire alarm and sprinkler monitoring systems must be installed and maintained in accordance with the standards in the fire code and building code. They send relevant information such as any fire alarms or waterflow and pressure warnings to the fire alarm monitoring system transmitter.
Dedicated Power
The ULC standard for fire alarm monitoring system transmitter requires a dedicated and hard-wired power source, so that it can notify the monitoring station. In the event there is no power (power outage) the ULC fire alarm monitoring system must have standby power.
A Source of Communication
The ULC fire alarm monitoring system transmitter needs to be able to communicate with the monitoring station and will typically use a dedicated phone line, cellular connection or internet connection.
Annual Inspection
ULC fire alarm monitoring systems need to be inspected regularly to make sure that everything is working properly. We ensure that all fire monitoring systems are inspected in the required intervals.
ULC S561 Certificate
When the ULC fire alarm monitoring system is tested and approved, then a certificate is issued which states that it is compliant with ULC-S561
